Shabbat Parshat Bo
Dvar Torah
On the cusp of the Exodus from Egypt, G-d gives the Jewish people their very
first Mitzva (commandment) to sanctify the new month in perpetuity, setting in
motion the calendar of the Jewish people. Sforno comments that the mark of a free man is ownership of
one's time, making this month in the times of the Exodus the first one which is
truly "ours". We can suggest following on this idea, that the
privilege of freedom is accompanied by an urgency to make the most of one's
time, and that it's our job to make sure every month is filled with meaning.
Quote of the week
“The pure righteous do not complain of the dark, but increase the light;
they do not complain of evil, but increase justice”
- Rabbi Avraham Itzchak HaCohen Kook
